This delightful statue depicts a chimpanzee sitting near a tree stump. He hunches over with one hand at the top of the stump and stares off into the distance with an intense look. His facial features, fur, and surroundings have been crafted with exquisite detail. Chimpanzees make tools and use them to acquire foods and for social displays; they have sophisticated hunting strategies requiring cooperation, influence and rank; they are status conscious, manipulative and capable of deception; they can learn to use symbols and understand aspects of human language. Despite their close relationship to humans, chimpanzees have been consistently treated as inconsequential in popular culture, where they are most often cast in stereotypical, limited roles as childlike companions, sidekicks or clowns. They are especially suited for the latter role on account of their prominent facial features, long limbs and fast movements, which humans find inherently amusing. Accordingly, entertainment acts featuring chimpanzees dressed up as humans have been traditional staples of circuses and stage shows. This is an excellent piece featuring the lost wax method of casting and is signed by artist Milo, founded thousands of years ago ensuring an exquisitely detailed sculpture that will add grace and beauty to your business or home.
